The Coigach Peninsula has got lots and lots to offer people who like the great outdoors. There's good walking all over the area and or course the beautiful mountains. One of the most famous and accessible climbs is Stac Pollaidh, just 30 minutes from the house.
Just over the headland is Achnahaird Bay with its wonderful beach.
The nearest shop, at Polbain (a ten minute drive), covers all the basics. Coigach Craft shop in Polbain is well worth a visit if you are looking for beautiful craft goods and a welcome cup of tea/coffee. A little farther along the Achiltibuie Stores sells petrol, diesel and calor gas, as well as a wide range of groceries. Ullapool, the nearest town (approx 45 mins), has a supermarket and shops for everything you need on your holiday. This is the place to go to take ferry to explore the islands.
There's a great restaurant at The Summer Isles Hotel not far down the coast (open on a seasonal basis). Much closer (only a short stagger) there's the very friendly Am Fuaran Bar just along the road, open all year round serving fresh local produce and seafood.
Right from the doorstep of the house, visitors can enjoy a wonderful array of animals, plants and birds. The many stunning walks all across the peninsula will reveal more, along with many fascinating archeaological sites. Past guests have helped us assemble the following resources - we'd love to have any more you might be able to send us!
- Plant and animal records
- Animal and bird photo album
- Flower and plant photo album
- Records of archaeological sites in NW Coigach
- Sites on NB91SE and NB91NE
